Nyamwinza (Beautiful) Florence
Age: 13 years

School: Nyendo Public Primary School
Background: Florence is a pleasant girl who comes from deep in the village where she grew up in very poor conditions without a clean source of water and no access to electricity. She grew up in the family home with both her mother and her father, however, Florence’s father is an alcoholic who sells whatever they have in the home to have money to buy more alcohol. Her hardworking mother is the main provider and care-giver at the home whereby she looks for digging jobs in neighbors gardens to earn just enough to feed their four (4) children. Due to the dire conditions in their home and the destructive habits of their father, Florence’s mother pleaded for us to help in some way so that her children could atleast go to school and be provided for. Therefore, we have stepped out in faith and in love to take on Florence and do our best to get her into school and provide for her basic needs. We thank the Lord for our Secretary/Social Worker, Josephine, who is housing her as we plan to also begin a Girls Home within the organization.

Lugobe Evarist
Age: 14 years

Background: Lugobe Evarist comes from a home that was not so pleasant to be in. By age 4 his mother died and left him in the hands of his father who has been an alcoholic. With other siblings to care for, an addiction to alcohol, and little to no income the father could not manage to raise Evarist in the best of conditions nor could he cater to his everyday needs, nevermind school. So, Evarist was sent to live with his older sister for a while who tried her level best to support him but struggled to do so with children of her own to take care of. One of his other siblings took it upon themselves to seek other help for her young brother to ensure that he could receive the proper care that he deserves, that’s where the Lord has used SYF to step in and try our best.
Needless to say, Evarist is in need of love, care, and support from loving people who’s aim is to help him achieve his highest potential with God at the center of his life. Mayanja Timothy (Joseph)
Age: 14 years
Level of Schooling: Primary Two (2)
School: Hill Road Public Primary School
Background: Timothy is a fun, hug-loving, humble boy who desires a better life with God at the center. Timothy was born in the village with his mom and his older brother, Robert. Unfortunately, his maternal dad died before Timothy could ever make a memory with him, therefore, the very important father figure in Timothy’s life that he could look up to and trust has been absent since birth. However, his mother did re-marry and Timothy gained a step-father. Unfortunately, their relationship has been rocky since the start due to abusive words and behavior from the step-father. Timothy’s mother is infected with HIV AIDs and has found it a challenge to look after Timothy and his brother, Robert. Therefore, Timothy looks up to his brother and follows him which is how he ended up on the streets. After two years of struggling to find food, shelter, and a family to truly love and accept him, God brought Timothy into our care to love, care, mentor, and provide a loving father figure in his life whilst directing him to the best Father of all, God.
Although he is 14 years old, due to two years out of school, he had to be placed in Primary Two (2) to get him back on track. He is full of potential and learns very quickly when focused. He loves football (soccer), dancing, playing, singing, and is a joke-ster. Please consider sponsoring Timothy for a brighter, better future.

Mukumbya Steven
Age: 14 years

Background: Steven is a bright, joyful young man filled with determination and motivation to achieve good grades and attain a successful future. He comes from the village where he was raised by his mom, along with three other siblings, as well as cousins, and other extended family members. Steven’s mother is sole-provider of the family due to the passing of his father. Therefore, his mother has been struggling to keep her children in school and at times, struggles even to feed the children. Steven has an older brother and two younger siblings. His mother was excited and thankful when SYF decided to take on Steven as one of the residential students, relieving some of the burden on her in the village.

Mayanja Robert (Junior)
Age: 16 years
Level of schooling: Primary Two (2)
School: Hill Road Public Primary School
Background: Robert was born and raised in the village by his mom, however, with the passing of his maternal dad and the union of a new step-father Robert was often neglected unless he fell sick. Robert, however, was often sick as he has sickle cell disease, a type of blood disorder that can result in attacks of pain (“sickle cell crisis”), anemia, swelling, bacterial infections, and even stroke. It is clear that God has a great plan for him as he has survived several challenging situations whilst battling the conditions of the disease. By the time Robert reached teenage years he was drawn to the streets of Masaka where he desired to be in search of a better life. Street life, however, did not treat him well to a degree where he nearly died due to his quality of life with the disease. Robert has been a regular to our Youth Center for over one (1) year. Over that period, our observations proved he needed assistance. He also desired to go back to school.
Robert and his younger brother, Timothy, have both joined us at our Refuge Home and are enrolled in Primary School. SYF is doing its part to rebuild the relationship between Robert and their step-father with a goal at one day placing them back into their home community. Robert is currently excelling in school in Primary Two (2). Please consider sponsoring Robert for a better, brighter future.
